This painting was created from a picture taken by artist Nic Tibo in her neighbourhood in a very cold   Quebec winter afternoon. It is the largest woodpecker in North America.   Distinguished by its size and bright red crest. The male is distinguished from the female by its red crest that begins at the base of the beak and by its red mustache, which is the case here. The female has a much smaller crest and her mustache is black and not red.
